A juicy DVD cover for Mick Garris' Chocolate |
QUICK REVIEW:
Chocolate is a TV movie episode of Mick Garris' (Sleepwalkers (1992)) Masters of Horror TV movie series, which had 2 seasons (2005-2007). This is one of the two episodes that Garris directed himself. Chocolate is based on a short story also by Garris:
A flavor chemist is terribly lonely after his wife and child have left him. He begins to get certain uncanny 'sensations'. - Could the woman he sees in his visions be real? Is the murder that he envisions? And why is she from Canada?
These are some of the questions raised in this very atypical plot, which I found rather original and would have liked to have seen out-fold itself in a longer format, (the Masters of Horror movies are only an hour each.) This isn't really horror at all but instead an erotic thriller. It has fair acting; you'll see Henry Thomas, Elliott from E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), in the lead, - and an intriguing basic idea.
