2010's best films are led by Tom Hooper's broadly appealing historical drama The King's Speech. It is followed by a new entry on this first updated list of the year, the first season of David Simon and Eric Ellis Overmyer's humanistic, musical New Orleans-set gift, Treme. Sofia Coppola has made her best film yet in Somewhere, and she joins the master ranks with Christopher Nolan with his huge, mind-bending Inception. Shari-Springer Berman & Robert Pulcini's priceless The Extra Man, Dustin Lance Black's little seen Virginia/What's Wrong with Virginia, George Tillman Jr.'s action car movie Faster and José Padilha's anthropology-investigating documentary Secrets of the Tribe are the year's other masterpieces (8 located so far.) Tobias Lindholm and Michael Noer's prison thriller R and Xavier Dolan's sexy menage-a-trois drama Heartbeats round off the top 10.
The year begat new, strong franchises Despicable Me, How to Train Your Dragon and The Expendables; the wonderful Allen Ginsberg-biopic Howl, new major TV-series Boardwalk Empire, a terrific, grand western from the Coen brothers in True Grit and many other great new titles. A couple of wild, crazy movies came out of Asia: Dream Home and I Saw the Devil. Noah Baumbach returned with wry, moody Greenberg, while James Wan scared us silly with Insidious and Gareth Edwards debuted auspiciously with the original Monsters. Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland was strange and wonderful and had audiences flocking, just as Lee Unkrich's great Toy Story 3 did grand business, while Ridley Scott's Robin Hood was also good but hopelessly neglected by the public, - if seen up against its huge budget, - resulting in the year's costliest flop, going upwards of 150 mil. $. Oliver Stone returned with a good sequel to Wall Street more than 20 years after that film; we got a new cool Wolfman film, and a maligned but fun Sex and the City 2. - As well as a great Danish dramedy, Nothing's All Bad, a Norwegian troll movie, Troll Hunter, a small crime drama that marks the arrival of Jennifer Lawrence, Winter's Bone and many other fine films.
Paranormal Activity 2 takes the cake as the year's worst film, an aggressively unlikable sequel. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, newly added, is an awful martial arts youth picture. They are followed up by similarly dour genre mates Legion, inane flop The A-Team and The Crazies. Michael Winterbottom's The Killer Inside Me rocked high unpleasantness and little to redeem it on any other front. Casey Affleck - the film's star - had an all-around bad year, which he also spent involved in the 7th worst film, the unbearable, narcissistic mockumentary I'm Still Here, starring his friend Joaquin Phoenix. The worst of 2010 also includes Denis Villeneuve's acclaimed but awful Incendies, Jack Black's turn in Rob Letterman's moronic Gulliver's Travels and an insipid remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. A vacuous Italian art movie about the seasons turning and goats, Le Quattro Volte gets pushed out of the Worst 10 this year. Another major star who had a poor year was Bruce Willis, who had a small part in Sylvester Stallone's refreshing Expendables, but also headed two brain-dead duds of 2010 in RED and Cop Out, as well as appearing as himself in super-dud I'm Still Here.
Besides honors (of which a few are questionable indeed), Film Excess awards are given in 21 categories with a maximum of 10 nominated for each category. The categories are an improved version of the Oscar categories which discriminates less between nations and genres than at the Oscars, (for this reason there is no Best Foreign Film category), and also recognize TV-series and non-adult actors. Other differences are that there's no distinction between 'adapted' and 'original' screenplays, - but there are different categories for practical and digital effects. There is also just one sound category, and no short film categories.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse were two huge success movies that both aren't very good.
A few of the major stars who, on the other hand, had very good years include James Franco (mediocre but highly successful 127 Hours, great Date Night and Howl, awful Oscar hosting job aside), Guy Pearce (Animal Kingdom, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark and The King's Speech), Steve Carell (Date Night, Dinner for Schmucks and Despicable Me), Sarah Jessica Parker, who reportedly made 45 mil. $ on Sex and the City 2, and the year's shooting star actress Mia Wasikowska (The Kids Are All Right and Alice in Wonderland).
The 2011 Oscars:
Hosting for their first (and likely last) time were James Franco and Anne Hathaway, who were, in short, terrible, the former seeming high through most of the broadcast, and the latter painfully stuck with a disengaged partner and unfunny material.
