The Amazing Transparent Man (1960) - Ulmer's invisible robber lacks a lot

The contours of Edgar G. Ulmer's The Amazing Transparent Man stand out on this poster for the film, which promises gun action, a robbery and a sexy lady!

A released bank robber has a debt to pay, and he intends to do so by robbing again, only this time using a new technology that renders him invisible!

The acting is charming in this science fiction/heist/crime movie that's based on underlying Cold War era paranoia. At just 57 minutes the film regrettably also manages to bore its audience.
Director Edgar G. Ulmer (People on Sunday/Menschen am Sonntag (1930)) shot it back-to-back with the time traveling picture Beyond the Time Barrier (1960) and completed the entire shoot in just two weeks! Which is easily the most amazing thing about The Amazing Transparent Man.
The flick lacks excitement and production values. It is written by Jack Lewis (Naked Gun (1956)).

[The Amazing Transparent Man premiered 24 February (Los Angeles, California) and runs 58 minutes. Shooting took place in Massachusetts and Dallas, Texas in 1959. AIP picked up the film after a brief release and distributed it wider in the US in 1960-61. Ulmer returned with Beyond the Time Barrier (1960). Marguerite Chapman (Man Bait (1952)) returned in 7 TV-series but never to the big screen again; Douglas Kennedy (The Texan (1959-60)) in 7 TV-series before his theatrical return in Flight of the Lost Balloon (1961). 1,984 IMDb users have given The Amazing Transparent Man a 3.9/10 average rating.]

Later credits include Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977), The Lucky Star (1980), Brainstorm (1983), Two Moon Junction (1988), Cruel Intentions (1999), A Perfect Man (2013) and many more. Fletcher passed away at age 88. R.I.P.

Born in Paris, France, Godard lived much of his life in Switzerland. He wrote for French film criticism magazine Cahiers du Cinema and became foundational for the New French Wave that inspired new waves in scores of other countries across the world with his Breathless (1960).
