The Electric House (1922, short) - Keaton introduces electricity with hilarious results in great short

An original Swedish poster for Edward F. Cline and Buster Keaton's The Electric House, which has had its title switched out with the English one

A young man leaves his own graduation with the wrong diploma and immediately gains wrongful employment as an electrician. He proceeds to electrify a fancy villa in every conceivable way!

The Electric House is one of co-writer-co-director-star Buster Keaton's (Steamboat Bill, Jr. (1928)) many outstanding comedic short films with co-writer-co-director Edward F. Cline (The Paleface (1922), short). It is physical comedy and comedy of entanglement, which evolves into a kind of electricity satire not unlike the later works of Jacques Tati (Playtime/Play Time (1967)), which also poke fun at the more or less absurd modern inventions. The electric wonders of progress certainly make ill-timed and hilarious entries in The Electric House. It all naturally develops towards complete havoc.
The Electric House is a really funny and highly inventive short comedy.

[The Electric House premiered in October (USA) and runs 22 minutes. The film was first attempted shot in 1920, but during the escalator scene, Keaton broke an ankle or leg (different reports) and production stopped. The footage was discarded in favor of shooting everything afresh later, and the original footage is lost. The film probably made its way across much of the world, as Keaton and his gags are universally funny, coming to Germany reportedly in January 1926. It has been restored in 2015, funded via a crowdfunding campaign. The short is in the public domain and is available for free and legal streaming and download right here. 1,838 IMDb-users have given The Electric House a 7.3/10 average rating.]
